Dear Neighbors!
Congratulations and thank you to this wonderful town and to a great group of candidates in our recent town election! I wrote this last night before the votes were counted and I wanted to share it with all of you with a special thanks to all who supported this campaign.
My concession and my acceptance statement turned out to be exactly the same. I am so grateful! Being part of this historic and difficult local and national election has been a humbling privilege and responsibility.
Civic engagement is the foundation of democracy both locally and nationally and it takes courage. A community open to new perspectives and information will succeed in organizing for a safe and just future, we have seen that we have such a community. Thanks to the work of excellent local reporting, the League of Women Voters, the Sequoias and the PV Forum, the urgent issues of local environment and fire resilience, inclusion of diverse voices, and the path to a town with affordable living spaces available to all, have been brought into clear view. Throughout the summer and fall, the Town Staff has been supportive and fair handed, thank you.
Working with you all has heightened my commitment to continue being honestly and fairly engaged for a unique and rural Portola Valley’s health and well-being. I love this little town and recognize its contributions to the Peninsula and the planet’s environment with its green connections and helping hands. We are a hot bed of good minds and ideas. And, we have the wherewithal and good conscience to save our fragile, precious lands and waters. Keep showing up!
Love gives wings to hope,
Mary Page Hufty MD
